Perthshire-based Ukraine aid charity TASH4Ukraine makes fresh appeal for funds

A Perthshire-based charity which regularly transports aid to Ukraine this week made an appeal for cash as the second anniversary of the Russian invasion approaches.TASH4Ukraine (Tayside and Strathearn Help for Ukraine) sends out a 40ft articulated lorry with vital humanitarian aid on average every nine days to the Polish-Ukrainian border area from a base at Errol Airfield.However, with transportation costs now amounting to around £100,000 a year it is calling for renewed cash donations and support.Coordinator Deborah Ovens said: “TASH4Ukraine has become the biggest hub in Scotland focusing on humanitarian aid to Ukraine.“It is operated solely by volunteers.“Donations come in from all over the country including Ayrshire, Aberdeen, Inverness, Aviemore and Glasgow.“Donations from individuals however have dipped considerably in recent months. “We’re having to work harder to get monetary donations in to pay for transportation and fuel costs to Ukraine.“It costs £2500 to send one lorry out.

We do that about every nine days. That amounts to about £7500 a month and around £100,000 a year.“Initially it was thought that the war in Ukraine would last a couple of months, but two years down the line it is still going on.“These lorry donations are vital.“As well as individual donations we’re looking for businesses to sponsor a lorry or part of a lorry load.“We don’t want people to forget the plight of the people of Ukraine.”TASH for Ukraine was formed four days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.The humanitarian aid includes winter clothing, food, toiletries, medical supplies and bedding.Deborah added: “Together, our volunteers and donors have delivered well over £2m worth of vital aid directly to the
