Paul Mescal said he hoped his win at this year’s Olivier Awards , the biggest night in British theatre, would give his mother “a little bit of a lift” amid her current cancer battle.
At the annual theatre awards ceremony on Sunday, Paul, 27, won the Best Actor prize for his leading role as Stanley Kowlaski in the West End revival of A Streetcar Named Desire.
During his acceptance speech, the Normal People star thanked his colleagues and co-stars before giving a shout-out to both his parents.
He said he wanted to thank his parents "who never said no" and then said of his mum amid her ongoing cancer treatment: "I hope you get better soon." Backstage Paul, who looked dapper in a black suit and white shirt, told reporters: “My mum and dad are at home.
