Before this month, the number of claimants of the all-in-one benefit had been increasing across the city-region consistently since March 2020.
While in most boroughs the number is still going up, the rate of increase has slowed massively. For Wigan, the number of claimants in the borough went up from 30,464 in November 2021 to 30,571 in December. In Trafford the increase was just 19 people – going from 15,752 to 15,771 in a month.
