Nicola Sturgeon slams 'thuggish' behaviour after glass bottle thrown on pitch at Rangers v Celtic clash

Nicola Sturgeon has slammed the "mindless and thuggish" behaviour of fans after a glass bottle was thrown on to the pitch at Sunday's game between Rangers and Celtic.

The First Minister commented after the start of the second half was delayed at Ibrox when the missile was launched into Celtic 'keeper Joe Hart 's goalmouth from a stand housing Gers fans.

Broken glass could be seen in chunks on the grass, with Hart demanding the shards were cleared off the park before the game could go ahead.Following the match officers from Police Scotland confirmed they were looking into the incident.Sturgeon was asked by LBC about her views on the incident, she said: "This behaviour is not acceptable, whether it happens at a football match or in the street."People throwing glass bottles is is just not acceptable, it's mindless, thuggish behaviour and it has no place in any civilised society."These are matters for the authorities, obviously, the football authorities and potentially for the police and the criminal justice authorities."People should be able to enjoy football."Football should be something that people can take their kids to and have a happy joyful occasion and behaviour like that, whether it's at an Old Firm match or any other football match besmirches that and it should absolutely be seen as unacceptable."During the match, which Celtic won 2-1, Sky Sports co-commentator Ally McCoist branded it an act of "gross stupidity" while colleague Andy Walker also hit out at the missile that came from the home end.Walker believes the moment of madness is damaging the reputation of the world famous derby.The former Celtic striker said: "We're trying to sell this game around the world.
