New York Times Hits 8 Million Subscribers

The New York Times Company announced its second quarter earnings Wednesday, revealing the media brand has just hit 8 million subscribers.

Times leadership would like to see 8.5 million subscribers by year’s end. The company adding 142,000 new digital subscribers, of whom 77,000 subscribed to the News app and 65,000 subscribed to Cooking and Games.

New York Times Company president and CEO Meredith Kopit Levien said in a statement, “Just after the end of the second quarter, The Times crossed another mile marker on our path to scaling direct, paying subscriber relationships: We now have more than 8 million paid subscriptions across our digital and print products — a testament to the success of our strategy, the strength of the market for paid.
