Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has started writing to nearly six million people across the UK confirming their Universal Credit payment will be cut by £20-a-week from October 1, 2021.
Despite many vocal objections to the ending of the uplift, brought in at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in April 2020, the DWP plans to go ahead with the monthly reduction.
And when Work and Pensions Secretary, Therese Coffey MP, appeared before a parliamentary committee earlier this month, she refused to say if she had lobbied Rishi Sunak 's Treasury Department to cancel the £20 cut.
Ms Coffey told the Work and Pensions Committee : “Ahead of October we will start communicating with the current claimants who receive the £20 to make them aware.
