New data from the Williams Institute and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) highlight higher rates of victimization among LGBTQ people.
According to the Williams Institute’s report, which analyzes data from the 2017 National Crime Victimization Survey, LGBTQ people were found to be nearly four times more likely than non-LGBTQ people to experience violent victimization.
LGBTQ people were also six times more likely to experience violence by someone well known to them and 2.5 times more likely to undergo violence by a stranger.
LBT women also reportedly experienced five times the amount of violent victimization experienced by non-LBT women. These findings, coupled with new federal data disclosed by the FBI on Monday (November 16),
