Muireann O’Connell says losing Today FM job left her family ‘devastated’

In July of last year, Muireann O’Connell tweeted that she had been ‘fired’ from national radio station Today FM, to the surprise of her fans.

Her daytime slot was then taken over by Mairead Ronan and though Muireann was still presenting on Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock show, later landing other TV gigs.

However, Muireann’s untimely departure from Today FM didn’t only leave her shocked and upset but also left her poor mother devastated.

Speaking about the time following her job loss, Muireann told Síle Seoige on her Ready to Be Real podcast: ‘I’ve lost jobs before the Today FM job and it’s always hard but this was very public and very out of the blue.’ She continued: ‘There were various things in the background that I won’t or can’t go into.
