In only his third feature-length flick, director Ted Geoghegan has created a unique spin on seance-flavoured horror. Set during the end of World War II, Brooklyn 45 follows five military veterans who have been best friends since childhood.

The group gather together to support their troubled host Clive (Larry Fessenden) when the metaphorical ghosts of their past become all-too-literal.

Geoghegan’s script sees secrets spill out on a regular basis - some truly horrific - and an increasing sense of paranoia among the ensemble.The supernatural elements take a back seat for large spells which only heightens their impact when they are unleashed.There’s a couple of jaw-dropping gory moments, peaking with one character’s head being brutally bashed beyond recognition.Creepy voices bark out commands and characters make surprising decisions that transform them into completely different people by the movie’s climax.A talky time puts a lot of pressure on the small cast to deliver the goods - and they do so in spades.
