Motherwell rename South Stand after club legend as icon left 'extremely honoured'

Motherwell legend Tommy McLean has thanked the Fir Park club for the 'fantastic accolade' of having the South Stand named after him.McLean is one of the club's most important figures after leading the Steelmen to the 1991 Scottish Cup.

Motherwell haven't won a trophy since.The four stands at Fir Park are now all named after iconic figures in Motherwell’s history: Davie Cooper, Phil O’Donnell, John ‘Sailor’ Hunter and Tommy McLean.After taking over as boss in 1984, 74-year-old McLean stayed as boss until 1994 and took the club into Europe for the first time.

He also brought Motherwell back into the top flight of Scottish football, where the club has remained since.The news was announced as McLean was inducted into the Motherwell Hall of Fame
