Modern Scots building in running for top UK architecture award

A modern building in Scotland has been named among the finalists for the 2022 RIBA Stirling Prize award. The Forth Valley College – Falkirk Campus has been picked out with five other finalists from around the UK and the winner is set to be announced next month.

London-based buildings dominate the six-strong shortlist, with just two outside the UK capital in Falkirk and Cambridge. And the 21,000m2 campus, which is the college's headquarters facility and includes a Centre of Excellence for Sport, was completed recently based on the design by Reiach and Hall Architects and cost around £78m to complete.

Featuring a range of innovative learning spaces, this exciting building will now go head to head with the likes of The New Library at Magdalene College in Cambridge and Sands End Arts and Community Centre in London for the award, which celebrates excellence in architecture and has been awarded for the last 26 years.The award is considered to be the most prestigious architecture award in the United Kingdom and is compared to other equivalents such as the Booker Prize for literature.Read more: What people complain about most at top Scottish attractions according to TripAdvisorShould the Falkirk Campus win, it will be the first Scottish winner since the new Parliament building in Edinburgh took the crown in 2005.

Speaking of the nominees, RIBA president Simon Allford said, "All six buildings are informed by close consultation and collaboration with clients, contractors and the community."William Hill currently have Sands End Arts and Community Centre leading the way in the odds in what is a tight betting market overall.
