Met Office verdict on August heatwave as hot temperatures look set to return

The Met Office has delivered its latest verdict on what the weather could have in store for August - and it's good news for those holding out for a return to hotter temperatures.

The weather agency's long-range forecasts suggests we could be getting above average temperatures and drier than usual conditions towards the end of July and into next month.

Meanwhile, the sunshine is expected to make another appearance next week after a wet and cool week for most. The Met Office said conditions are set to improve after a disappointing start to July saw yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms and rain issued on Wednesday. READ MORE: The Manchester bars where you can still watch the Euros final Towards the end of the week, temperatures are forecast to rise as high as 23C in parts of south-east England, including London and Kent, while Manchester can expect to see highs of 21C by Sunday.

Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick said the weekend will likely bring sunshine, light winds and dry weather apart from a few scattered showers in places.
