Race Across the World is back on BBC One, and among the five teams of two are Londoner Eugenie and her daughter Isabel. The contestants will be pushed to their physical and emotional limits as they leave behind smartphones, internet access and bank cards to cross six seas and eight borders from northernmost Japan. The first team to reach the final destination bags a £20,000 cash prize.

Eugenie, 60, hails from Barking and is a teacher, while her daughter Isabel, 25, from Birmingham, is a trainee clinical scientist. They hope that the experience will bring them closer together, despite admitting that their relationship can be fiery at times. "My brothers think it's a bad idea.

"They think it's a crazy idea, given what Mum's like when it comes to things like direction, navigation and things like that, so they thought it was a bit random." Isabel's biggest challenge, she says, will be remaining patient with her mother when it comes to direction. "She doesn’t believe me, nobody believes me," Eugenie added. "She doesn't believe me, nobody believes me," Eugenie shared, revealing the family's skepticism about her navigational skills.

Eugenie recounted how Isabel approached her with the idea: "When I make mistakes, they think, 'Come on, we did it 10 times.' They don't get it that I have no sense of direction, they're not accepting it.
