Matt Hancock has been given a new international role helping African countries recover from the covid pandemic just three months after quitting as UK Health Secretary.
On Tuesday evening Hancock announced he was “thrilled” to be offered a prestigious new United Nations job, albeit unpaid, advising African nations how to best bounce back from the pandemic.
The move came 24 hours after a damning report by MPs levelled heavy criticism at the UK government, saying the late lockdown in March 2020 which led to thousands of unnecessary deaths was one of the worst public health failures in UK history In a tweet Hancock said: “Honoured to be appointed United Nations Special Representative.
