Peter Logan, from Stockport, launched the violent attack on a newsagent shop worker on November 15 last year. The worker first noticed Logan - who had his face covered - tampering with a parked vehicle outside the back of the shop.
The victim went to challenge him but Logan then launched forward, as two other men – whose faces were also covered - approached him from behind.
The worker ran back inside the shop and tried to push the door closed but was repeatedly hit over the head with a meat cleaver.
