Manchester United starlet gets squad number upgrade in pre-season
manchestereveningnews.co.ukManchester United starlet Willy Kambwala has seemingly been rewarded following his breakthrough season with the club. Erik ten Hag promoted Kambwala to the United first-team last season after the club endured an injury crisis at centre-back.
Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans all spent time on the sidelines with injuries last term.
Ten Hag was occasionally forced to utilise Casemiro in a centre-back role in the final weeks of the season. The injuries also saw Kambwala, 19, handed his first-team debut in December last year in a defeat to West Ham in the Premier League.
The central defender went on to make 10 appearances for United last season, including eight in the top flight. Kamswala also featured twice in the Reds' FA Cup-winning campaign in the third and fourth-round wins over Wigan Athletic and Newport County, respectively.
