Anthony Martial may have played for Manchester United for the last time after he underwent groin surgery. United expect Martial to be sidelined for 10 weeks and the 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer.

Martial has been out for the last six weeks, initially through illness, and his agent last week revealed he required surgery on a groin problem.

The earliest Martial could be available to play again is the midweek fixture away at Chelsea the week beginning April 1. United have a one-year option on Martial's contract but have no intention of triggering it amid fitness and form problems in the last three years. "We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return." Martial has scored a meagre 19 goals since the start of the 2019-20 season and he only played in 28 of United's 62 matches last term.

Martial has not played since United were humbled 3-0 at home by Bournemouth and the Frenchman's removal that day was cheered by some United supporters.
