Manchester United had reportedly 'agreed personal terms' with Cody Gakpo this transfer window before eventually deciding against pursuing a deal.
According to The Athletic, United's interest in signing Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven this summer was very serious. They report that the club had agreed personal terms with the player's representatives ahead of the September 1 deadline.
It is claimed that United stopped pursuing a deal for Gakpo due to the transfer fee for Antony continuing to rise, with the Reds concerned about how much money they would end up spending.
Erik ten Hag's decision to keep Anthony Elanga for the season is also thought to be a contributing factor in the Dutch winger's deal failing to materialise, as the need for another player in a similar position diminished.
