Andy Burnham announced last summer that he wanted 20 officers to be posted in 'schools of greatest need'. It was a key measure in the Mayor's 'Serious Violence Action Plan' aimed at tackling a rise in violent crime in Greater Manchester.
But it immediately attracted criticism from campaigners who say police officers in schools can led to criminalising of young people and excerbate racial inequalities.
