The great summer bank holiday getaway is well underway, with Manchester Airport set for its busiest four-day period of the entire year.

The airport said it is expecting 116,000 passengers to pass through per day over the course of Friday through to Monday - a four-day total just shy of half a million people.

It's set to be the hub's busiest weekend, buoyed by events in Manchester as well as foreign holidays. "We're proud to connect the North to the world and are excited to be able to help thousands of people from the region jet off on their holidays, with Mediterranean hotspots including Alicante, Mallorca and Turkey looking especially popular. "This is also one of those amazing Manchester weekends when the city is hosting a host of international events including Manchester Pride, England vs Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, Premier League football and so much more – so we're also looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to our region."
