A man who was crushed by a falling digger near a supermarket suffered what police called 'potentially life-changing injuries', an official update revealed on Saturday.

He's said to have suffered 'significant injuries to his legs' and it's understood he remains in hospital. Greater Manchester Police revealed the update after the 'workplace accident' just outside Bury town centre on Friday morning.

Police officers, fire crews and paramedics were called to Spring Street, near to the Asda supermarket in Bury, just after 8am on Friday.

Eyewitnesses, meanwhile, said the air ambulance also landed nearby. READ MORE: We asked every Greater Manchester Tory MP about HS2...
