Glastonbury 2022: BBC share further details of festival coverage
BBC have shared further details of their coverage for this month’s Glastonbury Festival.Last month it was revealed that the broadcaster will show sets live from Worthy Farm’s Pyramid Stage in Ultra High Definition (UHD) for the first time.Now, a full schedule for the week leading up to the festival and its Friday night (June 18-24) has been shared, with significant coverage across radio and television.BBC Music’s presenters for the festival include Lauren Laverne, Jo Wiley, Clara Amfo, Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens, while the pre-festival schedule includes a broadcast of Glastonbury: 50 Years & Counting, described as a “kaleidoscopic portrait of Glastonbury and its social and musical history is given through the testimony of its principal curators, Michael and Emily Eavis, as well as artists who have appeared there”.Contributors on the programme include Aswad, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Dua Lipa, Ed O’Brien, Fatboy Slim, Florence Welch, Johnny Marr, Linda Lewis, Orbital, Noel Gallagher, The Levellers, Thom Yorke and Stormzy.On Monday (June 20), Stormzy: Road to the Pyramid Stage will be broadcast on BBC One, a film “in which Stormzy reflects on the journey that led him to that iconic performance in 2019 at the festival”.See the full schedule for BBC’s Glastonbury coverage from June 18-24 below.

Beck, Animal Collective and Jeff Tweedy are among the artists that will appear on a new birdsong-inspired compilation album.‘For The Birds: The Birdsong Project’ is set to be released in five monthly stages between now and September, with the first volume arriving yesterday (May 20).Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Karen O, Kamasi Washington, Terry Riley, Mary Lattimore, Tyondai Braxton, and Elvis Costello are among the other artists that feature on the expansive compilation.Costello said of the project: “This should be so very obvious: without birds we would be knee-deep in worms, swarmed by bugs, the trees bereft of song. The least we can do is raise our voices in praise or lament.”In addition to the musical selections, the project also includes spoken-word pieces from the likes of Florence Welch, Matthew McConaughey, Bette Midler, and Natasha Lyonne. Randall Poster produced the entire collection, with Lee Ranaldo serving as one of the set’s executive producers.All proceeds from ‘For The Birds: The Birdsong Project’ will be donated to the National Audubon Society.Listen to the first volume of ‘The Birdsong Project’ below:The project will be also be released in a massive vinyl set, spread across 20 LPs.

Florence + The Machine have scored their fourth Number One album with ‘Dance Fever’.Florence Welch’s band’s fifth studio album beat Kendrick Lamar‘s Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’ to the top spot.The band’s previous chart toppers include 2009 debut ‘Lungs’ follow up ‘Ceremonials’ and 2015’s ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’.Despite not claiming the top spot Lamar’s new LP was the most-streamed album of the week, in the absence of a physical release, according to the Official Charts Company.Meanwhile, The Black Keys ended up at Number Five with their new LP ‘Dropout Boogie.Elsewhere, in the UK singles chart, Sam Ryder‘s ‘Space Man’ was pipped to Number One by Harry Styles‘ ‘As It Was’,despite his success in the Eurovision Song Contest.Ryder’s song is also the highest Eurovision chart entry since Gina G’s Number One hit ‘Ooh Ahh…Just A Little Bit’ in 1996.‘Space Man’ was the UK’s most-downloaded song of the week, landing at Number One on the official download chart.Despite his defeat, Ryder hailed Styles who has remained top of the charts for seven consecutive weeks.“I feel like what Harry stands for, as a fan of his and listening to his music, he stands for the same things that Eurovision celebrates; a freedom of expression, of inclusivity. A celebration of music, joy and togetherness,” he said.
