Train drivers working for LNER are poised to launch a prolonged strike campaign, citing a collapse in working relations and the breaking of agreements. The industrial action will see a sizable number of Aslef union members walk out on every Saturday from August 31 to November 9, as well as every Sunday from September 1 through November 10, for a total of 22 days.
This dispute is seperate from another ongoing issue concerning pay, which appears close to resolution following a fresh proposal from the Government this week.LNER is responsible for operating the East Coast main line passenger service that spans between London and Edinburgh.
According to Aslef, they have experienced poor industrial relations, "bullying" by the management team, and consistent "persistent breaking" of agreements by LNER.General secretary Mick Whelan expressed frustration, stating: "The continued failure of the company to resolve long-standing industrial relations issues has forced us into this position."We would much rather not be here but the company has brutally, and repeatedly, broken diagramming and roster agreements, failed to adhere to the agreed bargaining machinery, and totally acted in bad faith."When we make an agreement, we stick to it.
This company doesn't and we are not prepared to put up with their boorish behaviour and bullying tactics." Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here.
