LINE of Duty star Martin Compston has teased that series seven could arrive within MONTHS. The 37-year-old actor - who plays Steve Arnott on the BBC One crime thriller - hinted that the show's creator Jed Mercurio may have another instalment on the horizon.

The TV star said the cast usually takes a one year break between each series before finding out if the show is set to return.

Appearing on The One Show, host Alex Jones quizzed the Scottish actor about a possible seventh series. Reading out a viewer’s question, Alex asked: “Is there any truth about series seven of Line of Duty?” He replied: “Look, it’s really satisfying how much people have taken it to their hearts and that there’s so much interest in whether we’re coming back or not.” The actor explained the cast are currently all taking their usual break between new instalments - and said they have not heard from the creator just yet. “We always take at least a year off,” he continued. “And then Jed decides if there’s a story or not to tell.” Martin added that a new series would only be created if there is a story worth telling.
