Scotland goalkeeper Liam Kelly joked he would have RETIRED if he had saved France superstar Kylian Mbappe's penalty. It was a tough night in Lille despite a party atmosphere for The Tartan Army in the stands with qualification for Euro 2024 already achieved and things only got better when Billy Gilmour opened the scoring in the blockbuster friendly.
But that only sparked Mbappe into life with the Paris Saint-Germain forward on the scoresheet alongside a double from Benjamin Pavard and a late strike from substitute from Kingsley Coman.
But Kelly almost made himself a hero when he faced up to Mbappe. After making his debut Kelly was in high spirits despite the defeat - and admitted he was frustrated not to keep out the penalty having guessed the correct direction.
Kelly told Viaplay Sports: "It's not ideal. No, I kind of had an idea he was going to that way. It's just annoying I got a wee bit closer to it."Pressed on what it was like to have Mbappe lining up to take the penalty, the shot-stopped quipped he came within touching distance of hanging ip his gloves: "I just thought if I save this I am probably going to retire. "It's so surreal.
