Kyle Lafferty hit with TEN game ban as Kilmarnock striker punished over sectarian comment

Kilmarnock striker Kyle Lafferty has been hit with an TEN game ban by the SFA over sectarian abuse which surfaced during a viral video clip.

The 35-year-old was charged last month and and his punishment was dished out at Hampden on Thursday with the Rugby Park side set to be without their star forward until after the World Cup.

The Northern Ireland international scored his third goal of the campaign in Tuesday's Premier Sports Cup quarter final win at home to Dundee United but his next strike won't arrive until the new year with Lafferty with the ban starting with the potential relegation six-pointer against Ross County on Saturday.

The former Rangers and Hearts player was adjudged to have breached disciplinary rules 77 and 81. Rule 77 states: "A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official, other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football." Rule 81 states: "No recognised football body, club, official, Team Official, other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall (i) use offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or actions which include(s) a reference, whether express or implied to one or more of the following ethnic religion, colour, race, nationality, religion or belief."
