Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool is unlikely to reopen until early February. The popular facility closed more than two weeks ago after it ran out of cash.

Since then pool representatives and key funders, the Friends of Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool and Kirkcudbright Development Trust, have been locked in talks to find a solution.

But meantime hundreds of swimmers and bathers remain high and dry. Speaking after the latest meeting yesterday, pool chairman Brian Matthews said: “Being realistic the pool will not reopen until early February. “We need our business plan up and running and approved by the end of January to enable funds to be released.

Then and only then can we reopen the pool. “The business plan is very important – without that neither the Friends nor KDT will release any money. “We are beginning to work as a unit at long last. “The feeling is that we are beginning to win and get our pool back. “It’s a case of short term pain for long term gain.” Mr Matthews added: “We found out this morning that all pool staff have been paid until the end of the year. “Following the resignation of the pool manager we are in the process of finding a replacement manager. “Interviews will take place in due course. “We also need more people to help run the pool by becoming directors of the KSP board.
