Kate Middleton was once reportedly left standing awkwardly alone in the middle of Prince Charles' 60th birthday party according to a butler, as the now Duchess of Cambridge was yet to become a household name.

The 40 year old royal is recognised around the globe having secured herself as an adored staple in the Royal family as Prince William's beloved wife.

The couple, who tied the knot in a stunning Westminster Abbey ceremony back in 2011, also share children Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, four.

The Duchess has found her niche with family and parenting charities, and was recently announced as the new royal patron of the Rugby Football Union, so it seems unthinkable to imagine the mum of three as simply the shy girlfriend of Prince William standing in the corner of a room.
