ITV's This Morning paid tribute to Glasgow's curry king Mr Ali today, after he sadly passed away earlier this week.Ali Ahmed Aslam, who was the genius behind the tikka masala dish, passed away aged 77 on Monday, December 19.Mr Ali owned the city's Shish Mahal restaurant, and was extremely popular and much loved by many.
Tributes have been flooding in since the sad news was announced and today on This Morning, the show acknowledged his passing.
When discussing the news with Matthew Wright and Nick Ferrari, hosts Josie Gibons and Craig Doyle said they were surprised that tikka masala was actually created in Glasgow, writes Glasgow Live.Matthew said: "Legend has it that a customer way back when ordered the chicken ticker, which is cooked in the oven dry, and when it was served up they said 'this is a bit dry have you got any sauce'?"He added: "I've travelled a lot in India and the most amazing thing is you then eat it [tikka masala] in India and realise it has made its way around the world.
It is fantastic! Sadly lost."Nick Ferrari was then asked if he knew that the tikka masala was actually created in Scotland. He replied: "I have to confess, yes I did know.
