A couple claim their Christmas Day was ruined by an 'off' turkey bought from Sainsbury's. Despite having a 'use by' date of today - December 27 - they claimed the turkey, which cost £15.59, looked and smelt 'disgusting' when they opened up the packaging to cook the crown on Christmas Day morning.

They complained online to the supermarket - and revealed they were offered an £8 'gift card' in compensation, but no apology. The woman who bought the turkey, who's 63, said it's too little, too late, and said she and her husband were forced to go without the festive food tradition on the big day as a result.

They had planned to invite relatives over for Christmas dinner, but were forced to cancel as they had no other meat in. Instead, the couple tucked into pigs in blankets with roast potatoes and veggies - all the festive staples but without the festive turkey.
