I can't get on board with every single TikTok trend because some are just a little too odd for my vanilla trend taste (see: the face wax challenge and DIY vampire fangs).
One, however, that I am firmly behind is the girl math logic sweeping the app. I'm forever looking for ways to justify costly beauty treatments and purchases, and girl math does just that for me, neatly packaged up in a mathematical equation that, unlike the mind-numbing calculations I could never wrap my head around in middle school classes, makes perfect, logical sense. The essence of girl math is to justify spending money on something a little bit extravagant by reducing it to a cost per wear/use, or off-setting it against something else to make it, yes, basically *free*.
Though the hashtag is currently sweeping TikTok, it was catapulted into mass-market stardom last year by New Zealand-based radio show Fletch, Vaughan & Hayley, with the three hosts later creating a regular Girl Math segment after they found success with listeners when justifying a very pricey hair appointment.
Inspired by them, I'm here to help share some of the best calculations for salon girlies I've seen doing the rounds for treatments like hair extensions and manicures.
