It's the sweet-tasting condiment that many of us love to pop on everything we eat, but is there a better brand than Heinz?If you pop round to any house across the country, you'd be hard pressed to find a cupboard that does not contain a bottle of the iconic red sauce.
Whether we are popping it on bacon sandwiches or dipping in our chips, tomato ketchup continues to remain one of our favourite sauces that we have enjoyed since childhood.Of course, for a lot of us, Heinz is the way to go.But, can a supermarket's own-branded bottle of red sauce give the popular British food companies version a run for its own money?Well, that's exactly what a blind taste test from Which?
set out to find out. The consumer expert website had more than 100 ketchup fanatics blind taste test nine different own-branded ketchups from supermarket's, including Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury's.And it turns out that, while Heinz is still the reigning champion, one supermarket is good enough to almost dethrone the food giant - Waitrose.
The tasters were asked to rate the tastes based on appearance, aroma, flavour and texture of each bottle of sauce and they found that the premium-branded supermarket is a close contender for the throne.
