A statement on behalf of his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus Gambon, issued by publicist Clair Dobbs first broke the news on Thursday 28 September, which read: “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon “Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.
Michael was 82." “We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.” After the announcement, thousands of fans raced to social media to share their thoughts on his phenomenal career, while also expressing their deepest sympathies to his loved ones.
One fan wrote: "Sad news about the passing of #SirMichaelGambon. A superb actor who I'll always remember for being a wonderful successor to #RichardHarris as Dumbledore, aside from the rest of his remarkable career.
