Netflix subscribers are just uncovering the powerful impact of Ava DuVernay's acclaimed miniseries When They See Us. The series, which is based on the harrowing true events of 1989, delves into the lives and families of five Black and Latino teenagers who were wrongly accused and prosecuted for the rape and assault of a white woman in Central Park, New York City.
With 11 Primetime Emmy Award nominations under its belt, the show has outshone its true-crime genre peers with an impressive 97 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, members of the Netflix Addict community on Facebook have expressed that it's a tough watch, with many saying they could only bear to watch it once.
One shaken fan wrote: "It was only one time I needed to see it", while another shared: "Barely made it through the first time".
