Greece sees surge in Turkish tourists as local resorts slash prices

Turkey is reportedly witnessing a brutal decline in tourism, leaving holiday resorts deserted as tourists opt for Greece. From April 1, Greece announced Visa on arrival specifically drafted for Turkish visitors.

Aware with this provision, Turkey's citizens are allowed to tour ten Greek islands for nearly seven days, single-entry limited.

As reported by VisaGuide.World, resultantly, the influx of Turkish tourists in Greece soared whilst numerous lodging rooms in Turkish vacation resorts reportedly "remained empty".During the initial ten days of April, a whopping figure of 20,690 Turkish travellers descended on islands like Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos, and Rhodes cumulatively.

This unsettling circumstance has earned scrutiny from tourism representatives of Turkey, with a faction insisting on ditching express visas, reports the Express.Winning fewer tourists has pressured Turkish hotspots such as Borum to slash their prices by an enormous 50 per cent commencing second half of July through first fortnight of August, in an attempt to reel in guests.The Chairman of the TURSAB Regional Representation Board, Demir, commented: "Since fixed costs, such as electricity, personnel and hotel rents, are fixed, while other food, beverage and cleaning costs are variable, our hotelier colleagues made their calculations and made discounts so at least the rooms would not remain empty, they could pay the staff and not lay them off."In 2023, Greece welcomed an impressive 33 million tourists, marking a significant increase of five million from the previous year, as per figures released by the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), thus earning the country a spot among the top ten most visited nations worldwide.With over seven million
