A teenage girl died after going for routine dental surgery so she could have a brace fitted, an inquest has heard.Denisa Alexandra Stefanoaia suffered “a rare complication of medical treatment” when she was booked in to have four teeth removed at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London in February this year.

The 15-year-old, known as Alex, was put under a general anaesthetic and the surgery was meant to take no more than an hour. Tragically, she bit down on a tube into her airways towards the end of the procedure, which flooded her lungs with fluid and starved her brain of oxygen.
