Gene Clines was a speedy line-drive hitting outfielder who helped the Pittsburgh Pirates win the 1971 World Series championship.
He played center field for the Pirates on September 1, 1971, when they fielded the first all-minority lineup in Major League Baseball history featuring players of Black and Latino descent.
He hit over .300 for the Pirates in 1971 and 1972. After five years in Pittsburgh, he finished his career playing for the Mets, Rangers, and Cubs.
