Fury over no funding for electrification at Greenfield Station

For the latest Oldham news sign up to the MyOldham newsletter here A furious MP has said the only main line railway station serving the Oldham area has been 'ignored' by the Government in the TransPennine electrification scheme.

Debbie Abrahams, who represents Oldham East and Saddleworth for Labour, says she is 'deeply frustrated' after Greenfield Station missed out on funding.

It follows the announcement of funding for the electrification of 15 miles of the TransPennine line in North Yorkshire and two new stations outside Leeds.

There was no mention, she says, regarding electrification of the line through Greenfield or a new footbridge for the station, for which she has been a long-time campaigner.
