People may want to steer clear of four common breakfast foods after the results of a recent study found those who ate more ultra-processed foods (UPFs) had a higher risk of developing certain cancers.
UPFs have also long been linked with obesity, which comes with its own increased risk of developing several cancers. The British Heart Foundation list sausages, breakfast cereals, mass-produced bread, and fruit-flavoured yoghurts, four foods commonly eaten for breakfast, as UPF.
While they're often linked to a number of detrimental health outcomes, UPFs are usually far cheaper to buy and quicker to prepare than healthier foods.A number of studies have spotted a link between UPF consumption and cancer, including a recent British study which looked at the association between UPFs and 34 different cancers in the largest cohort study in Europe, the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort, as reported by the Express.
Obesity associated with a high consumption of UPFs is often blamed for the increased risk of cancers, however this study proves it may not be the only factor.
