First snowfall in Scotland as residents wake up to winter season overnight

snowfall of this year’s winter season this morning. Large parts of the country were blanketed in the white stuff as forecasters issued a yellow weather warning for Wednesday night.

Around 10cm of snow are said to have accumulated in areas of high ground - but the wintry showers also descended on parts of the central belt and the borders overnight.

The Highlands appeared to be the most impacted by the conditions as heavy snow showers landed on the hills and streets. Temperatures also plummeted to below freezing last night, with thermostat struggling at lows of around -7C in some parts.Scots have been urged to take extra care while driving as some icy patches remain on the roads today.
