Police have handed out less than 40 fines to passengers not wearing a face covering on public transport after they were made mandatory.Latest data from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) shows 38 notices were issued by police forces since the introduction of the new rule making face coverings mandatory in England from June 15 and in Wales from June 27.It comes after Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that one in 10 travellers were flouting the rule.If passengers are caught not wearing a mask on board, except for those exempt, they can risk being fined £100 and removed from the service.Out of the Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) issued, 32 were by the British Transport Police (BTP), with four from West Midlands Police, and one each by.
