Baseball legend Fernando Valenzuela, known as El Toro, has sadly passed away at the age of 63. The news was announced on Tuesday night (October 22) by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team he spent the longest tenure on during his MLB career. “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Dodgers great Fernando Valenzuela,” the MLB said in a statement. The Mexican baseball pitcher competed in 17 baseball seasons from 1980 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1997. He started his career with the Dodgers and played for the team through 1990.

He went on to play for the California Angels, the Baltimore Orioles, the Philadelphia Phillies, the San Diego Padres, and finally the St.

Louis Cardinals. News of Fernando‘s passing comes just hours after it was announced that a new mural celebrating his career would be placed in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.
