Racing fans hoping to get back into the action this summer were dealt a blow as it’s revealed that The Galway Races will be drastically limiting spectator numbers.

The annual festival is the highlight of the racing calendar, attracting thousands of punters to the Ballybrit racecourse every year.

News of the ticket cap has been dubbed ‘extremely disappointing’ for fans. For the 2021 race meet which kicks of this July and runs over a week only 1,000 spectators will be allowed to attend each day.

This compares to a figure of over 130,000 race fans across the seven days in 2019. Festival organisers were reportedly aiming to welcome back 5,000 ticket holders per day but those hopes were dashed last night.
