Whatsapp has rolled out a new feature which will allow users to receive 'private' updates about their interests. Parent company Meta launched Whatsapp Channels in 150 countries including the UK on Wednesday (September 13), meaning people can follow thousands of organisations, sports teams and celebrities within the messenger app.

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo, football clubs Manchester City and Liverpool, and Meta's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg are among those with Channels.

Separate from your chats, users can choose who to follow - and this won't be visible to anyone else. Channels will work similarly to news feeds on other social media platforms, such as Facebook or X, formerly Twitter. Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features. Channel posts can feature text, photos, videos, and polls.

It will appear in the new updates tab alongside status updates that people can already post for their contacts to see. When you press on a Channels post, it will look like a normal Whatsapp chat.
