A Dumfries man will be cycling 100 miles over the weekend to raise money for the Stroke Association. Shaun Graham McEwan, aged 53, who was recently diagnosed with diabetes, sets off today and hopes to finish on Monday.
He said: “I think it will be challenging as I plan to do it over four days. It will also depend on the weather conditions. “If it rains I will try to split the miles but if it will be good weather I will try to power through to achieve the goal even quicker. “One of my friends might join me for part of it as well.
I am grateful for the support I am receiving and it is good to see so many of my friends and family helping a good cause.” Shaun, having been diagnosed with diabetes, wanted to start a challenge to keep blood sugar down and instead of just exercising he decided to raise funds for a charity.
He said: “My first target was £150 which is the minimum you can set up on Facebook and now I have raised over £300 and will collect a few donations in person.” The Stroke Association helps more than 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK rebuild their lives.
