A former police officer who was jailed after he formed a secret sexual relationship with an alleged rape victim, even attempting to thwart a raid on her home to prevent his dirty secret from being uncovered, has been sacked.

Simon Rose, an officer who had served with Greater Manchester Police since 2007, was jailed for three years in April after he was convicted of perverting the course of justice and misconduct in a public office following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court in January.

Today, October 7, Chief Constable Stephen Watson held a special case misconduct hearing at GMP headquarters to determine whether any action needed to be taken against 48-year-old Rose.

The hearing, which Rose did not attend, send representation or seek to provide a statement to, was lead by Chief Constable Watson, hearing submissions from Gareth Madrick, a solicitor representing the authority.
