Deontay Wilder has told Anthony Joshua it will be a “disaster” if the two heavyweights fail to meet in a boxing ring. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the two were set to fight in Saudi Arabia at the back end of this year and a deal had been agreed.
Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius - who was also Wilder’s last opponent - two months ago and a December fight was booked. But hosts in the Middle East pulled out as attention turned to Tyson Fury’s undisputed heavyweight bout with Oleksandr Usyk, which is set to take place providing the Gypsy King gets past former UFC star Francis Ngannou this weekend.

While neither fighter is a current world champion, a scheduled bout would still attract millions of pay-per-view interest. There were reports that the showdown could take place on the undercard of Fury’s winner-takes-all clash against Usy.
