A man has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years for the murder of his four-month-old son.Reece Kelly, 31, was earlier found guilty of the murder of Dallas Kelly, who was killed at his home in Workington in October 2021 and died from a traumatic head injury. He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today alongside Dallas' mum Georgia Wright, 23, who was jailed for three years for child cruelty.

The court heard that little Dallas was shaken so hard he suffered multiple fractures and had injuries consistent with a fall from a multi-storey building, Lancs Live reports. On October 15, 2021, Kelly phoned an ambulance and said Dallas wasn't breathing but he continued to deny any involvement in his son's death until the first day of his trial. It was then he admitted shaking Dallas but claimed he had not meant to cause him serious injury or death. It was determined that the cause of death was a non-accidental traumatic head injury and there was also fingerprint bruising on Dallas, consistent with gripping or squeezing. The baby was also found to have six rib fractures, five of which occurred around the time of his death. The other fracture was between 6 to 12 weeks old and the court heard that both Kelly and Wright would have been aware of the previous fracture. But they failed to seek medical help for their son and did not take him to scheduled medical appointments.

The youngster was also exposed to drugs which were littered around the home. Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. The police investigation found that Kelly had caused Dallas’ injuries by shaking him with significant force.
