The Critics Choice Awards is on the move. The Critics Choice Association said today that its 29th annual trophy show is moving to Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and away from the Fairmont Century Plaza, which remains mired in a dispute with hotel workers. “We regret that a labor dispute has made it impossible for the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards show to be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza, where it has enjoyed great success for the past two years,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said. “But we are happy to be able to return to The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, where our show has also enjoyed great success through the years.” Indeed, the CCAs have been held at the airport local eight times in the past decade.

The ceremony was at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles last year. The Fairmont is among a number of local hotels that remain in a dispute with Unite Here Local 11, which represents more than 32,000 workers employed in hotels, restaurants, airports, sports arenas and convention centers throughout Southern California and Arizona.

The union reached a settlement last month with a number of local lodgings including the Beverly Hilton, which is the site of the Golden Globe Awards next month. “For viewers at home, it will be the same exact show,” Berlin added, “and we’ll now be able to seat even more of our members who fly in from all over to enjoy the evening with the hundreds of stars in the room that night.” By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
