Costco is rationing the number of toilet rolls customers can buy amid the coronavirus outbreak. Videos showing people fighting over packs of toilet rolls in stores have been widely shared on social media.

It seems shoppers are stocking up on supplies, fearing supermarkets will be hit by a shortage as the virus takes hold. Mum Lyndsey Schofield said she thought it was nothing but media hype until she saw the scramble for herself at Costco in Oldham on Tuesday morning.

The retailer is limiting customers to one pack of toilet rolls, one packet of kitchen rolls and one pack of boxed tissues. "I am in shock, it’s real, I thought it was all hype," said Lyndsey. "Have just been to Costco and they are literally queuing for toilet paper.
